Genting International Jazz Festival 2008
Last Saturday, my fiancee and I went for a Jazz Festival event held in Genting Highland, it's our first time to this type of live jazz performance. The music interest was mine initially but my fiancee begin to catch the essence of the tune and both of us now enjoy jazz together. For those who missed it, too bad, it is a must go event for all jazz lovers
Most of the seats are free seating so we went early at about 6.30pm to book our seats which is front row of free seating, it's only about 8-10 metres away from the stage, therefore we get a good view of the performers. After waiting for a while finally, the first performer comes on stage with their intro 'Do re mi'
Below is the schedule of the day performance and my personal review
7.15pm - 8.15pm Key Elements (Singapore)
A Jazz acapella group from Singapore, consist of 6 in a team, extremely talented, acapella music to me once used to be a very messed up noisy tune, but this team makes it all good, one of my favorites
8.30pm - 9.30pm Tangora (Caribbean / France)
A very talented voice from France, her voice is unequal with her band of instrument players. Special credit to 2 of the band members, the pianist and the steel pan drummer, they put on their best performance for the crowd and put us all in awe with their talent. I got this fresh clip of the steel pan solo during that night, someone uploaded it onto youtube. One of my favorites
9.45pm -10.45pm Neanders Jazzband (Denmark)
Woo, this band totally rocks! They look not so young, hehe but they really have stamina to perform, audiences were awe by the combination of trumpet, trombone, clarinet, saxophone, drum and bass. One of my favorites also
11.00pm - 12.00 midnight Schalk Joubert and the Three Continents Sextet (Norway, Sweden, Spain, Africa, Australia)
This band has mix members from different nation therefore their pieces are actually hybrids of different jazz. I especially like their number 'El Nino'
12.15noon - 1.15am Tighten Up! Jazz Jamaica with special guest Myrna Hague (UK / Jamaica)
This band is cool but by this time I am already drown in the midst of smokes and sleepiness, so we didn't hear finish the band playing, we left earlier
One thing I really hate about this event and the only thing is SMOKING IN THE HALL POLICY, Is Genting out of their mind by allowing those diesel engine to huff and puff in a closed area? Those selfish diesel engine bastard can't even be considerate enough to think for their own girlfriend/boyfriend who doesn't smoke. I immediately got an asthma attack after the show is over, thanks to you inconsiderate smokers!
